The Final Push- Gosh Darn Hand

I am still working on that gosh darn hand. But i bought my 4 feet by 23 inch piece of wood for 12 bucks from the wood shop courtesy of Alex. I spoke with Hope about how to go about preparing my four foot waste slab. I spoke with Christine about rotating the slab to allow for even drying..even though the whole idea of moving it freaks me out...but i guess i will try to not concern myself with this for the time being. As soon as Friday class is over, I'm going to just push and push and work as hard as I can... these things are slow going.. but the hands and feet are sooo important.. then ive got the glasses, hair, earphones. Then re-hollow out the gutz by slicing open the belly and yankin out the clay. Open up the arms and legs and re-hollow, re-seal, smooth, fix all sides and edges where the figure rests on the surface. Define and detail all creases, clean any clay bits. Then I will transfer everything over to the slab... which will hopefully be about the same consistency as the figure by this time and have sand or grog on it. After tomorrow i will be able to measure and decide if I will need to splice her in half.. what i pitty if i have to.. that would suck. oh well.. gotta just keep pushing on.

Bare Bones

I'm working on the arms. These are only temporary glasses. I know the hand is too big...i plan to make it smaller. The boobs are flatter now, and the nipples will also be reduced. But you can see how things are progressing. These are the bare bones people, so be kind.

Reclining (but stressed out) Figure

I am working on this piece of a reclining figure.
The gloves are only there to keep things wet, but don't they look funny :-)
In this shot I am working on coiling the leg and figuring out the positioning of the thigh...these things are so hard to sort out...silly proportions.

Storm King

...was really neat. We were even able to experience a real rain and thunder storm while we were there. I enjoyed seeing the Serra pieces after the rain finally let up and the sun came back to warm up our poor wet little bodies.. which got soaked in the sudden downpour while on the open sided tour trolley.. geesh

Studio Move in

So the work was put up and now the work is down. Back in boxes in my studio. I'm working on getting everything organized in there. Last night I mopped the floor but I don't think anyone will be able to tell the difference since it's got tons of art junk caked on it. At least I feel better for trying. Also put up a bunch of images on the wall... folks ive seen, work i ran into in magazines and was attracted to it for one reason or another. I decided to set up my tables in a circle/square format... and it took a long time to decide this because i am used to working on only one table. Instead.. this time.. i am trying to force myself to best use the large space im in, and take advantage of being able to spread out a bit. When i left the studio last night...my studio definitely felt more like me. Things are definitely coming together.... now all i have to do is make some work already :-) Covering the tables in canvas also worked out really well... gave the space a uniform feel, cleaned it up, and also provided better and cleaner surfaces to work on. Indeed it's important to invest the time at the start to acquainting yourself with the space you will be working in... and making it work for you... so that you can find things and so that you feel comfortable in your creation environment. Also these sorts of things just make me happy. Its important to acknowledge that and allow myself the necessary time to indulge in this final hurrah at uarts.
